Influence of growth conditions on the performance of InP nanowire solar cells.
Nanowire based solar cells have attracted great attention due to their potential for high efficiency and low device cost. Photovoltaic devices based on InP nanowires now have characteristics comparable to InP bulk solar cells. A detailed and direct correlation of the influence of growth conditions on performance is necessary to improve efficiency further. We explored the effects of the growth t...
متن کاملComparing nanowire, multijunction, and single junction solar cells in the presence of light trapping
In this paper we quantify the constraints and opportunities for radial junction nanowire solar cells, compared to single junction and multijunction solar cells, when light trapping is included. Both nanowire and multijunction designs are reliant on a very low level of traps in the junction region, and without this, single junction designs are optimal. If low trap density at the junction can be ...
متن کاملSilicon nanowire radial p-n junction solar cells.
We have demonstrated a low-temperature wafer-scale etching and thin film deposition method for fabricating silicon n-p core-shell nanowire solar cells. Our devices showed efficiencies up to nearly 0.5%, limited primarily by interfacial recombination and high series resistance. Surface passivation and contact optimization will be critical to improve device performance in the future.
متن کاملPhotovoltaic measurements in single-nanowire silicon solar cells.
Single-nanowire solar cells were created by forming rectifying junctions in electrically contacted vapor-liquid-solid-grown Si nanowires. The nanowires had diameters in the range of 200 nm to 1.5 microm. Dark and light current-voltage measurements were made under simulated Air Mass 1.5 global illumination. Photovoltaic spectral response measurements were also performed. Scanning photocurrent mi...
متن کاملNanophotonic resonators for InP solar cells.
We describe high efficiency thin-film InP solar cells that utilize a periodic array of TiO2 nanocylinders. These nanophotonic resonators are found to reduce the solar-weighted average reflectivity of an InP solar cell to ~1.3%, outperforming the best double-layer antireflection coatings. The coupling between Mie scattering resonances and thin-film interference effects accurately desc...
